It’s not as complicated as you think it is.
We make it complicated in our head as we keep on thinking about it- the trick is to get out of your head as quickly as possible, or you’ll end up thinking the same thing 10 years later.
I read something interesting recently on my IG feed:
There are only two people whose pride should truly matter to you- not your parents, not your friends, not even your mentors. Just two: the 8-year old you, full of dreams , and the 80-year-old you, full of memories. Both are watching you right now. The child you once were is still inside of you, filled with wonder and hope, waiting to see if you’ll chase the dreams they once believed in. They don’t care about sucess the way the world does – they just want to see you try, to be brave enough to go after what truly makes them happy. And then, there’s the older you- the one who’s lived through it all and knows how quickly time passes. They don’t care about achievements or what others think. They just want you to slow down, cherish the small moments, love deeply, laugh freely, and fully embrace the life you have today – because those moments won’t last forever. If, in this moment, both of them can look at you with pride, if the child sees their hero and the elder sees a life well-lived, then you can rest easy. Because in the end, it was never about being perfect; it was about being true to yourself, about making the little one proud and giving the older one peace. And if you’re doing it, then you’re already winning.
I felt like this quote very beautifully captures the reason why you should do anything worthwhile at all, makes you look at your life in a zoomed-out perspective. right now you’re young and you need money, you want things, your desires are now different than what they used to be when you were young, and what they would become when you’d be old. But you make all of your life decisions out of current desires, which is not a bad thing, but it’s just one perspective of your life, you must at all times remember these two ends when you’re searching for answers within yourself, how will you explain this to them?
So you want to make videos – great. let’s start with a “why”
because deciding why will decide everything else, this is the starting point.
you have to list down your possible reasons of why exactly to want to make a youtube channel in the first page, the reason could be shallow like “i want to make money” or “i want to followers” or it could be deep as “i want to educate people on certain topics” “i feel like there aren’t enough people talking about this, so I want to talk about this” or “i want to build a community” – your reason could be anything, it doesn’t matter. it’s for you, it’s for your mind, the important thing is to have a reason.
Because if you don’t have a reason, you won’t stick to it.
when things go south, life gets busy, you aren’t as motivated as you’re right now, it’s that “reason” that will make you stick around.
So choose a reason, and remember you can change your reason as you go further, as you explore more, you need a reason just to start, when you’ll end up will be decided by your faith, skill, dedication, luck and a whole other lot of universal cosmic level things beyond mine and your level of understanding, that path you have to explore, but TO CHOSE TO EXPLORE THAT PATH, is always at your hands.
My only recommendation is don’t put the purpose so big that you become so tiny in front of it, like dreaming of becoming the president of a country, don’t do that, the purpose has to be achievable yet a little from where you are.
Now that you have a reason, a why, let’s pack up a few more things before we start our journey:
Time: time and money are the only two luxuries, we all want to get these as much as we can, either you have a lot of money to leverage and start working on your dream, or you manage your time, to build your thing, work on your project, and eventually make money. these two things are just like a never-ending “flight club” scene. you really can never decide which is more important in life, but you fight, you gotta keep the fight on.
Things: you don’t need to purchase all the items right away, but do list them down in a diary or somewhere, the things you want. and then eventually you can start buying things one by one, after completing set of tasks, set the things as rewards, even small things you need to buy – don’t buy them right away, “work for it” and ofcourse the more expensive things you buy later on when you start making some money – again it’s a never ending thing, the more you work, the more you’d want to upgrade, so the more you’ll earn, and you just keep feeding into this until you reach a stage where you sit on your project and you have everything you want to work freely.
Skills: you must start observing things that you must learn to order to work on your projects as smoothly as possible, you don’t need to learn all skills on day 1, but do make a syllabus of some sort for the next 6 months or so, so that you’re focused on the right things, like when we were kids, for 12 years, every single year they slowly upgraded our mind to understand more, people now a days make fun of school systems, but I think it’s crazy that in 12 years they taught us A, B, C to pythagorus, to quantam physics! Look at us now, it’s been years of us working in jobs, corporations, businesses, and everyday we feel like we’re learning nothing new, life is just the same as before, nothing is getting sorted, we lack purpose, we lack confidence, why? we don’t have a syllabus to complete anymore! mid terms and end terms anymore! that’s why. so you must carefully craft out your syllabus.
So how do you exactly get started?
- You save references everywhere, you have the things you have “saved“ on your social media, bookmarks, different diaries, back of the notebook, you gotta start categorizing them, to understand what are the things that your brain signals as important when you’re doom scrolling, these are your field of interest.
- Once you categorize them, you will see buckets of interests, maybe you’ve different categories of interest, and that is what makes you special, you gotta color-code them, theme them, and in your new diary, spend a little time understanding yourself.
- You should explore a few categories, try to copy the reference in your own style, skill, and taste, to understand your field of interest in depth.
- and then you have to select one and plan it out – ideally it should be in the category of something that is challenging and rewarding in itself without the need of external validation.
if I give my example, I use different social media platforms to explore different parts of me, while my public instagram page is all about art and painting, my private Instagram is all about my personal day in a life, self talk videos, travel vlogs. YouTube Shorts is the place where I experiment with voiceovers and new things, I feel YouTube’s audience is warmer than Instagram’s, so that is where I like to experiment there. And now starting this year, I am restarting the long form content with the intention of documenting my life and telling people exactly what to do as I explore the things on my own, and the same with newsletter.
I also need to start writing on X and Threads, I am following the path carved out by Dan Koe, by the way, if anyone is wondering why I’m doing all of this. and I should get a real job. Please read his blogs, watch his video, the guy is the cult leader towards our future, I am telling you, just read one blog and your life will change forever.
I hope you find this short blog helpful.
I am not going to step by step layout how to start your YouTube channel, I bet AI can give better planning on how to do that, I can only tell you about the mindset you need to start doing anything worthwhile.
See you next time!
